About DCM Shriram Industries Limited
DCM Shriram Industries Limited is a diversified manufacturing business with over a hundred years of experience as a pioneer of Indian industry.
Daurala Sugar Works, our flagship facility, was established in 1932 at Daurala, a village near Meerut on the New Delhi-Haridwar national highway. It began as a standalone 400 TCD (Metric tons of sugarcane crushed per day) sugar manufacturing plant. Today, Daurala continues to lead the industry in quality, efficiency, and modernisation of the
sugar manufacturing process as one of the largest sugar units in Uttar Pradesh. Daurala has a total capacity of 12,500+ TCD across two milling tandems, an integrated 215 KLPD distillery, contract bottling, and a co-generation power plant that can make 85MW+ of Green Power per year.

Innovation That Lasts
Our longevity has only been possible through decades of re-invention, from being one of
the first sugar factories in North India to now becoming a diversified manufacturing
conglomerate.
Our Legacy
The Delhi Cloth & General Mills Company Limited (DCM) was originally founded in 1889. Since then, the story of DCM has been one of sustainable growth and reinvention. The DCM story has closely paralleled that of India, with each landmark in DCM’s history being mirrored in the industrial progress of the country.
A century after DCM was founded, on 1st April, 1990, DCM Shriram Industries Limited (NSE/BSE: DCMSRIND/523369) became the flagship company that inherited the legacy of the DCM Group.

India’s first sugarcane truck tipper was installed at Daurala in 1983.
Our Founders

Lala Shri Ram
(April 27, 1884 – Jan 11, 1963)
In 1909, Lala Shri Ram, also known as Sir Shri Ram, started his journey at DCM in a humble secretarial role. After rising through the ranks, Lala Shri Ram began transforming DCM, quickly expanding and diversifying it into a manufacturing powerhouse. Daurala Sugar Works was Lala Shri Ram’s first greenfield project, which he personally commissioned in 1932.
Following this, DCM diversified into other sectors such as technical textiles, chemicals, consumer food products, electric components, automobile engineering, and home appliances. Lala Shri Ram was one of the seven architects of the Bombay Plan of 1944-45, alongside other business scions such as J.R.D. Tata and G.D. Birla. In 1930, he became the President of the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) and was subsequently knighted by the British in 1941.
Lala Shri Ram set up the Shri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC) in 1926 and the Lady Shri Ram College for Women (LSR) in 1956. Both are still recognized as amongst the highest-ranking academic institutions in India.
A pioneer of employee welfare in India, Lala Shri Ram first introduced concepts such as profit sharing and employee provident fund at DCM. These have since been adopted as industry practice across sectors in India. His focus on the shop-floor employee made Lala Shri Ram one of the most beloved entrepreneurs of his time, and we continue to strive to meet his example across all our operations at DCM Shriram Industries Limited.
Dr. Bansi Dhar
(March 7, 1930 – June 26, 2004)
Dr. Bansi Dhar was the grandson of Lala Shri Ram and succeeded him as Chairman and
Managing Director of DCM Group. He also served as a Director on the boards of Jay
Engineering Works Ltd., Shriram Refrigeration Industries Ltd., Shriram Pistons & Rings
Ltd., Usha International Ltd., and Kothari Sugar & Chemicals Ltd.
During his storied career, Dr. Bansi Dhar served as President of the Indian Sugar Mills Association (ISMA) as well as Chairman of the sub-committee on Heavy Chemicals Fertilizers and Pesticides for the U.P. government’s 6th Five-Year Plan. He was also a member of the Indian Sugar Industry Inquiry Commission, and that of the Development Council of the Sugar Industry.
He contributed to the broader nation-building as the President of the Federation of Indian
Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) and PHD Chamber of Commerce and
Industry (PHDCCI), while also serving on the governing boards of the Indian Institute of
Management (IIM), National Productivity Council, Indian Institute of Science (IISc), All
India Management Association (AIMA), and Sports Authority of India.
In the sugar sector, Dr. Bansi Dhar’s focus on sugarcane development, plant efficiencies,
and novel technologies made him a significant driver of innovation and industry
development. His connection with each employee made him a beloved figure at DCM,
and also allowed subsequent generations to learn from his example in continuing to build
upon our legacy.
